Solicitation
So, folks, I've laid out the design for Baby Shashi's quilt. Will you do me a favor? Will you look at it and tell me if there are any aesthetic changes you would make? Like, does it look unbalanced in color or texture. Would you move the bottom right square to the second row from the top? Does the orange block need to be replaced because it won't fit? It looks right to me but I love the fabrics and can't see the forest for the trees. Feel free to click on the image to see it better.
Thanks.

i haven't thought this through completely, but i think the heather ross mendocino square would be less conspicuous if you switched the ikea animals for the floral in the lower right corner.
diagonal groupings of similar patterns would be another strategy i'd explore. the mendocino could get its own corner.
if photoshop was working, i'd give it a go. i love the princess and the pea!
Ok, so I have never made a quilt, and I'm not a design person. So this is just my immediate, uneducated impression. I want to recommend putting all the fine patterns (like the little flower patterns) around the edge and the bigger patterns in the middle, or vice versa. I found my eye getting caught by the bottom right corner which was all fine patterns, and then feeling like the bigger patterns pulled my eye to random corners of the quilt.
Great work, though!!
The bottom left with the triangles (teepees? Crayons?) seems to fall off the edge b/c there is no color "wall" like there is in the rest of the quilt...
Again, I'm no genius (in fact, your wedding quilt square still sits mostly-done-but-not-quite in my basement)...but that's my impulse.
This is what I'm talking about people. These are great comments. Keep 'em coming.
Ali, send that quilt square to me. Draw a picture of what pieces go where and I'll finish it up. :-)
... and then you have me who feels like i just need to say that you are making a quilt for your niece who will love and cherish it regardless of it's ascetic beauty and/or value simply because it was made by you. that's all i have to give :)
Dearest Jake and Jess,
I am in desperate need of a project for your unborn to love and cherish. I do not want to usurp your own quilt-making so what would you like? A hand-sewn mobile? Stuffed animal? Diapers? Loveys? Anything is on the table, really.
I came over to check out your mix, but that quilt stole the show. It is fantastic. No suggestions, sorry, too perfect already.
Meghan, you are too sweet. I did change it up a little int he final analysis, based upon some of the comments. Stick around, I'll post pictures of it in it's native habitat - Shashi's crib - soon.
